A selection of my paintings

I work from my home town of Teignmouth, which is a seaside resort about 14 miles (22 km) from the City of Exeter in South Devon.

Teignmouth is well known as an important port for the export of Ball Clay from the local Bovey Tracey quarries, the product being used worldwide for the manufacture of ceramic white goods. The town is also known as the home of the enigmatic sailor Donald Crowhurst , who set sail in October 1968 to participate in the Sunday Times Golden Globe Race. His boat was found abandoned in July 1969 and his disappearance remains a mystery

Teignmouth is bounded by steep hills and is set at the mouth of the River Teign which rises some 31 miles (50 km) west on Dartmoor. The seaside location of the town, the surrounding hills, the tidal estuary of the Teign and the majestic granite outcrops of Dartmoor are a constant source of inspiration for my work.

I have a preference for painting in watercolour as it lends itself to working outdoors where minimal equipment is an advantage.

Most of my finished work is done back at the studio but preliminary sketches and rough painting on site provide a much better appreciation of the atmosphere and emotional appeal of the landscape.

Although primarily a showcase for my work, examples of which can be found on the Gallery pages, I’m also publicising information about local events and exhibitions and there are links to a number of art-related websites.

I can produce giclee prints of some of the paintings in the gallery. If you are interested in acquiring a print, please get in touch via my Contact page.
